Notater:
Birth: Aug. 15, 1848 Death: Mar. 27, 1911 Niels Christensen was born August 15, 1848 in Eierslev Mors, Denmark, and died March 27, 1911. He came to America in 1872 and after about a year in Chicago came to Howard county and settled on the farm which has been his home ever since.
May 21, 1880 he was married to Miss Maren Petersen and to this union thirteen children were born, the oldest died eleven years ago, the others, seven boys and five girls are living. The two oldest girls are married, Mrs. Jens Petersen of Dannebrog and Mrs. Chris Petersen living on a farm near her old home. Theodore, the oldest son, has a farm in Dannevirke precinct. The rest are all at home, the youngest being only four years old.
The editor of this paper has known Mr. Christensen personally ever since he came to this county and as his wife is our sister, we knew him well and can say nothing but good of him. He was a model husband and father, kind and loving, never had any trouble with his neighbors or any one that he associated or did business with, but was always honored and respected by all.
From Rev. Pedersen's funeral sermon we quote: "Mr. Christensen was a man of whom we can truthfully say, a good man in all respects, good to his family, his friends and the country and will be missed not only by his family but by all his neighbors and many friends."
Mr. Christensen was sick only a few days and his death came as a surprise to many, and even neighbors and near friends who had not heard he was dangerously sick.
The funeral Thursday was very largely attended, the remains were laid to rest beside his son in the Dry Creek cemetery.
Besides his wife and children the deceased leaves one brother, L. P. Christensen of St. Paul and a host of friends to mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband, father and brother and a true friend.
