Written by P.S. Petersen - Peder Ove Petersen was born in Skjoldborg, Jylland, Denmark on October 20, 1867 and died at his home at Dry Creek, six miles west of Dannebrog, Neb. Dec. 20, 1944 at the age of 77 years and two months.

In June, 1872, Peder with his father, mother, two brothers and one sister left Denmark for Chicago, Illinois, where they intended to make their future home. Two of his sisters had died in Denmark in February, 1870. The family arrived in Chicago in July of 1872. On August 7, the same year his youngest brother died, a little over a year old, and four days later his mother died at the age of 38 years.

After the death of the mother, his father decided to leave Chicago for Nebraska, arriving in Dannebrog, Sept. 16, 1872 with his three children, Peder O., not quite 5 years old, Maren (Mrs. Niels Christensen), not yet nine, and P.kS. 11 years old. A few days later, Jens Petersen, Peder O's father, got his first papers on the Dry Creek farm which has been Peder O's home ever since; more than 72 years and he had owned it for nearly 50 years.

December 18 1894, Peder O was married to his cousin, Miss Dusine Olesen, who came from Denmark in 1893. Three sons were born to this union, Jens and Theodore who live on their own farms adjoining their father's, and Carl, who lived in Colorado for some time, but has made his home in La Mesa, Calif. the past few years. All three are married. Jens has one son, Albert, who is now in the Navy. Jens himself was in the first World War and was in France three months. Theodore has three daughters, and Carl has no children.

Mr. and Mrs. Petersen were married by the Rev. J. Chr. Pedersen on the farm where he resided until his death. Rev. Pedersen also visited them on the date of their silver wedding in 1919.

Mr. Petersen lived practically all of his life on that farm and has taken an active part ever since he was a boy in the church, school and community activities, and he has always been highly honored and respected for this as well as for his honest and upright dealings. His passing away leaves only one person in the Dry Creek community who was here before 1873, his sister, Mrs. Niels Christensen.

Besides his wife, children and grandchildren, he leaves to mourn his loss, one brother, P.S. Petersen of Dannebrog, One sister, Mrs. Niels Christensen of Boelus in the Dry Creek Community, two half brothers, Anton C. Petersen, Sioux City, Iowa and Martin Petersen of Grand Rapids, Mich., one half sister, Mrs. Lawrence Sorensen of Ravenna, other relatives and many friends who were sorry to lose a loved relative and a loyal, good, trusted friend.
