Mrs. P.O. Petersen

Dusine Pouline Olesen, daughter of Ole and Anne Nielsen Bak was born January 31, 1873 at Kjoldberg, Jutland, Denmark and died at the Howard County Memorial Hospital at St. Paul, Nebraska early on the morning of February 5, 1952 at the age of 79 years and 4 days. She was the youngest of a family of 12 children, none of whom survive.

Her father passing away when Dusine was a child, she was sent out to work for her room and board at 11 years of age. In 1894 at the age of 21 years of age, she came to America and on Dec. 18 of that year was united in marriage to Peder O. Petersen of the Dry Creek community.

They began farming on the land homesteaded by Mr. Petersen's father in 1872 and continued to make that their home.

Three sons were born to this union, Jens A. Petersen and Theodore C. Petersen of Dannebrog and Carl A. Petersen of La Mesa, Calif.

Mr. and Mrs. Petersen celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Dec. 8, 1944. Two days later, Mr. Petersen passed away. Mrs. Petersen continued to live in their farm home. She suffered much for several years from a lung ailment but continued to care for herself.

Mrs. Petersen was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Denmark and joined the Dry Creek Lutheran Church, of which she was a faithful member. During her last months of illness she prayed that God would take her to the home to which He had promised her through faith in Jesus Christ. As she longed to be relieved of her sufferings and looked forward with anticipation to receiving the victor's crown, she was greatly burdened for others who did not possess this Christian hope.

She is survived by her three sons, three granddaughters, Madeline, Carol and Garnett; one grandson, Albert; one great grandson, Albert Lynn; a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Mrs. Petersen was a devoted and faithful wife and as good a mother as anyone ever had. Her passing brings sorrow, yet joy that her prayers and hopes are now fulfilled. Those who sorrow, sorrow not as such who have no hope. May God bless and use her memory.
